Were here!! We are in St petersburg, and its like being in a dream. we keep pinching ourselves to see if its true!.
From plymouth we arrived by bus at heathrow Airport. it was here our first difficulty was encountered- we could not connect to the internet- all our plans of doing this 'blog' looked doomed to failure!. But our son in law came to the rescue with a friend who was able to give us some wise advice- we didnt connect to the internet, but we did catch our flight and connect to it ove r here! thankyou so much to everyone- us 'oldies' can still do it !!!!!!!! Thankyou too for all of you who have encouraged us along the way to achieve our ambition!.
Our flight left at 6.30 am , so were are feeling a bit tired now (didnt get much sleep at the airport- 4 am check in and we were first in line ( that was a first!) the flight was quick (2 1/2 hrs- compared to the New Zealand 26 hrs!) then a rapid chase through Warsaw airport to the connection flight and on to St Petersburg (2 hrs) Coming in to land we could see remains of snow everywhere and all tne lakes were frozen over. On landing one section of remaining snow reached up to the tops of the windows, giving us a clue as to what it really must be like in winter!. The main river here has 'ice flows' on it where the seagulls hitch a ride as they flow downstream!. Having said that the sun is shining on us and the temp today is +2 to +6, not as cold as last year in Korea!. Loved our 'Wedding Anniversary meal tonight (41 yrs! opps!) Traditional Russian Beetroot soup, and a chicken and egg type broth (delicious) then a tender chicken breast coated with some potato like a hash brown, plus beer and coffee! nice! locals are very friendly! found this quiet bar/cafe where it was all 'russian' but great!. looking forward to a day all ourselves exploring tomorow, but now we have to get some sleep............................................from Russia with love!
